Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian

November 12th, 2009

Ben Stiller returns as hapless museum night watchman Larry Daley in this sequel to the hit comedy. Though he’s now working at the Smithsonian Institution, Daley continues to deal with exhibits that come to life while the museum is closed. His adventures this time include close encounters with Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams), George Custer (Bill Hader) and Ivan the Terrible (Christopher Guest). Owen Wilson, Ricky Gervais and Dick Van Dyke co-star.

I am not a big Ben Stiller fan but I loved Stiller in THE NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM and thought I would give this sequel a chance. I was delighted with this second installment which was the first time Hollywood filmed at the Smithsonian. This movie made me want to take a trip to Washington, D.C. and actually visit the Smithsonian. Because I love art and history I liked this movie as much or even more than the original movie. I think the addition of Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart was a win for this movie. Adams is charming and delightful as Stiller’s love interest and his logical thinking partner who helps him fight the bad guys and save his pals that have been shipped to the Smithsonian from the original museum. Many of the favorites from the first film make their appearances but there are also several new enemies as well as friends that appear. I also liked the scenes where they jumped into a famous picture and traveled back to D day. Teens will probably recognize the Jonas Brothers making an appearance as the singing cherubs. Jonah Hill is also funny in a small part as Brunden, the Smithsonian security guard. This is a great FAMILY film to enjoy together and have fun with. It is great light hearted comedy. I thoroughly enjoyed this one!
